Mission statements have been misused for ages. They are often written by management consultants with total disregard for the intended audience. We believe your organization’s mission statement should be written for your employees. Not your customers; not your shareholders; but for the people who have been tasked to carry out that mission.
Not just written for employees, but by the employees. When the staff creates the organizational mission, you do not have to worry about getting buy in from them. They created it so they will own it. They will then ensure that the mission is carried out.
Your mission should define who you are, what you do and why you exist. Who would know that better than your employees?
